Every year from December 5 to 6 in the evening, according to the Christmas tradition in Austria, there is a traditional procession to Suetschach, in which the main characters are Krampus and Saint. Santa Claus. Krampus is Santa's companion, with the difference that Santa gives gifts to good children and Krampus punishes the naughty ones.
The Krampus costume is made of sheepskin or goat fur. Sheepskin is an essential element when creating this authentic and striking costume. The sheepskin fur adds realism and intrigue to the costume, making it look more menacing and impressive, and the natural variations in color and texture of the fur add depth and another dimension to the character's overall appearance.

Similar to classic leather jackets, which are always equipped with a lining to increase wearing comfort and product durability, the use of a lining is also essential in Krampus costumes. The costume must not consist solely of sheepskin. The lining serves an important protective function - it separates the wearer’s body from the raw side of the leather, improves comfort, prevents chafing, and helps maintain the proper shape and longevity of the entire costume. As a result, the costume is more functional, safer, and suitable for extended wear during events and rituals.
Sheepskin Care:The sheepskins used for Krampus costumes are intended for use indoors or in dry, covered halls without exposure to moisture. They are designed for such conditions, and only under these circumstances do they retain their aesthetic qualities and durability. The sheepskins must not be used in the rain or in damp environments, as moisture can cause damage.
The sheepskins should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated place. If used outdoors, for example on benches in beer gardens, the sheepskins must be removed at night to prevent them from absorbing moisture from the air. Proper care allows the sheepskins to remain in good condition for many years.
